Somatic Sunday: Voicing through the spine

We are launching Somatic Sundays where we offer workshops focused on movement and somatic work.

In this workshop we will be working with voice as a tool for communication with others through the different parts of the spine.

We will do simple exercises to gently warm up the body, particularly the pelvic floor, and transferring heat to the rest of the spine in order for us to incorporate exercises with the voice and all parts of the mouth.

We will be working in pairs as well as a whole group, practicing our ability to listen and voicing at the same time together with others.

This workshop propose that voicing and awareness of our bodies help us to create relation to what is outside of our skin, the practice of empathy, kineasthetic empathy, intimacy and collective empowerment.

This practice is for every body interested in somatic practices as well as dance, but no previous experience in either practice required.

About the teacher:

Marit Shirin is a dance artist/maker with MA in Fine Arts from Stockholm University of the Arts. She has worked as a professional dancer in Brussels, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Reyjavík, Tokyo, Osaka and Denmark amongst others. Since 2019 she is working with the project 'Humans & Soil' that is an artistic platform committed to decolonizing academic practices and revitalizing our ancient indigenous relationship with the Earth. Working with a theoretical and practical approach to dance, she is currently part alumni som SKH working with research on diversity, and decolonial studies in Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Her latest work as a choreographer was "Jarkelidh" commissioned by Riksteatern 2023, and "of itself : in itself" comissioned by Norrlandsoperan 2021.
